- I've been following this group for a few weeks now, and haven't seen
- discussed what I've learned recently may be my problem. (Can I be,
- like, any MORE obtuse?)
-
- USR Sportster v34 Mac&Fax, 28.8 modem--I've been connecting fine
- to my workplace, which also uses USR products. But I've been
- having problems with dropped carrier when I try to connect to
- an ISP.
-
- Day before yesterday, one of my coworkers said "Oh, yeah, of
- course, I heard of that. Death-spiral. The modem's got a bad
- chip. When it gets noise, it throttles down the speed, but never
- corrects back up. Get a new chip."
-
- I've been trying to call USR, but their live people are closed when
- I'm at home, and, of course, I'm at work now, and my modem is at home.
-
- TIA
